# Building Barcode Content

Barcode labels are comprised of two primary components. Review the following sub-sections to learn the details of each.

When adding a barcode or QR code to a visual label template, you can start in [**Label Designer**](/asset-tag-maker/technical-docs/building-a-label-template/creating-labels/label-designer.md). When you save the label, Label Designer creates and links the required barcode records. Open the related **Barcode Part** when you need to configure the format, encoded value, Inkspread, error correction, or other advanced settings.
